Moon Phase & Rituals

The moon is the oldest calendar for the inner life. Each phase carries its own energy — a rhythm of planting, tending, releasing, and resting you can move with instead of against. Here's tonight's phase and how to work with it.

Reading the sky…

The eight lunar phases

New MoonBeginnings & intention-setting

Plant the seed. This is the time to name a fresh start, not to chase results.

Ritual: Sit in the dark with a candle unlit. Write what you want to grow before it exists in form. Light the candle only once the intention is on paper.

Waxing CrescentFirst steps & commitment

Feed the seed. Momentum matters more than perfection now.

Ritual: Take one small, concrete action toward the New Moon intention. Speak it aloud to one trusted person to make it real.

First QuarterDecision & pushing through

Meet the resistance. Half-moon energy is about commitment under friction.

Ritual: Name the obstacle that has appeared and choose your response in writing. Do the harder half of a task you've been avoiding.

Waxing GibbousRefinement & patience

Refine, don't restart. The harvest is near — resist the urge to uproot.

Ritual: Review what you began. Adjust one thing, then trust the process. Tidy the space where the work happens.

Full MoonCulmination, release & gratitude

Illuminate and let go. Everything is visible now — celebrate, then release what's done.

Ritual: Under the moon (or a window), write what you're grateful for and what you're ready to release. Read the release list aloud, then safely burn or tear it.

Waning GibbousGratitude & sharing

Share the harvest. This is the disseminating moon: pass on what you've gained.

Ritual: Give something away — time, thanks, or help. Journal one lesson from the cycle so far.

Last QuarterForgiveness & letting go

Release the grip. Half-moon on the way down is about clearing space.

Ritual: Forgive one thing — yours or someone else's. Clear one cluttered drawer or file as an outer echo of the inner release.

Waning CrescentRest & surrender

Surrender and restore. The dark is coming — let yourself be empty before you fill again.

Ritual: Do less on purpose. Rest, dream, and note any intuitions before the New Moon resets the cycle.

A note on manifestation

Rituals here are tools for focus and reflection, not magic that acts on your behalf. The moon doesn't grant wishes — but a monthly rhythm of setting intentions, taking small aligned action, and releasing what's done is a genuinely useful way to live deliberately. Take what serves you and leave the rest.
