Month Ahead Spread
5 cards · Beginner · about 10 minutes
A month is long enough to have a shape and short enough to act on. The first card names the theme — the lesson or energy running underneath all four weeks. The other four are the weeks themselves, read as weather rather than appointments. A heavy card in week three does not mean something bad happens on the fifteenth; it means that stretch will ask more of you, so do not book it solid.
The layout
When to use it
The first day of a month, or any Sunday evening when you want the shape of the next four weeks rather than an answer to one question.
The positions
- 1
Theme of the Month
The current running under all four weeks.
- 2
Week One
How the month opens — what to start or set down.
- 3
Week Two
Where the month builds momentum or meets resistance.
- 4
Week Three
The turning point — what needs adjusting.
- 5
Week Four
How the month closes and what carries into the next.
How to read it
- ✦Read the theme card first and keep it beside every week — each week is the theme meeting a different stretch of time.
- ✦Look for the heaviest and lightest weeks and plan accordingly: hard conversations in a strong week, rest in a heavy one.
- ✦Note the cards in a journal and reread them at month's end; that second reading is where the spread teaches you most.

When should I draw a month-ahead spread?
On the first of the month or the evening before. Drawing mid-month works too — read week one as the week you are in.
Do the weeks start on Monday or on the 1st?
Pick one convention and keep it. Most readers count from the day they draw.
How is this different from the Year Ahead spread?
The year spread gives each month one card; this gives one month five. Use the year spread for direction and this one for planning.
